This is what the speedway looks like now. Picture taken July 2005 Welcome. The Greater Johnstown Speedway was opened in 1958 by Ron and Barbara Krieger. Weekly race events featured modified, hardtop, sportsmen, quarter midget, and powder puff divisions. It was located just off Frankstown Road (rte 53) on Engbert Rd, which is near the Johnstown Airport. The track featured lights for night races, and if you parked up on the hill you could view the race from your own car seat. Original promoters were Ron and Barb Krieger, but also was promoted by Dick Baserman and Penn Western..... If you would like to learn more about the history of the Greater Johnstown Speedway, and the names of the drivers who raced there, then please call Bill Horner to purchase the book.
